The beat that opens ‘Through Your Eyes’ combines the robotic, mechanical sound of the programmed percussion with the laid back, swinging rhythms of early jazz. Nørus slowly allows gentle pads to rise to the surface of the track alongside some overtly seagull-like sound effects. The standout feature of this release is its atmosphere. While there is no distinct melodic theme presented, the potentially improvised piano melodies, combined with their stunning production, give the listener the impression they are being carried off into the sky by the gentle music. The bizarre video that accompanies the track gives off a very different interpretation than we had in mind, but the inclusion of this piece on the excellent NV020 VA compilation is unsurprising. -Dan Peeke
